It started to get sketchy on University Drive and Main at that point. I was already slipping in my 2wd Suburban.... Radford Rd to Christiansburg was very sketchy. I made it to the wooded S-turn around 4:45 and cars were stopped, skidding, crawling at 5 mph.

I pressed on... made it to where you stopped and slowly trudged on... made it up that long hill towards christiansburg with a VERY feather light throttle and no turning of the wheel. I also kept in the new snow rather than the packed ice where all the cars were traveling. It seemed to help. As I crested the hill, a big group of cars were collecting behind a very slow, skidding car at the top of the hill. 5 minutes later, and emergency vehicles were headed past me in that direction. I don't think it worked out well for the group by the bottom of the hill.

I drove through the thick of it and lucked out to get my kids from daycare just in-time and hour later. It was one of those drives when even the radio has to be off so you can focus all your mental capacity on full control of the vehicle. That kind of drive seems to happen at least once every other year from Radford to Blacksburg. I need to pay attention to the weather closer.
